How to Create the Corner FoldHow to Create the Corner Fold
• Open a new file 13” x 13” (if using 12”x12” paper) with transparent background.
• Place 12” x 12” paper on centre of page
• Make a triangular selection with the Polygonal Lasso tool in the bottom, right OR top left corner of your mat. (see pic below)
TIP: To make sure you have a perfect triangle fold, work with the grid turned on. View > grid.

(NOTE: If you are not familiar with using the preferences menu to set your grid to the size you require, see the Mini Tutorial – “How to set Grid Preferences” . This will help you become familiar with this very useful tool.

• Press “Ctrl + Shift + J” to cut the corner you have created and place it on a new layer.
• Double click on the name of the new layer you just created and change it to “Fold.” Click once on the layer to accept it.
• Click on the Foreground Color Chip and select a color that will match your mat.
(If using the sample paper supplied – set hex to 98aa9c)
• Fill the Fold with the Foreground color by pressing “Alt + Shift + Backspace.”

• To “bend the fold” - choose “Image > Rotate > Layer 180°” to flip the fold so the point is facing inward.

To make Realistic Shadows
• Create a custom shadow below the fold as described in Tutorial 1B.
Use the Smudge tool to move the sides outward to create a slight “bulge” and move each of the three points slightly inward.
• With the Move tool, move a brad onto the point of the fold.
• Select the Dodge tool. Choose the Range in the Options Bar (Midtones is usually a good bet) and set the Exposure to 10 to 20%
• Brush in a band of highlight from one side to the other of the fold.
• Select the Burn tool. Set the Exposure to 10% and brush in a small amount of shadow along the tip and the back of the fold.
• Create a new layer below the folded paper layer.
• Select the Brush tool and choose a soft brush. Lower the opacity to 30% and make sure you have black as the Foreground color.
• Click once just inside the back part of the fold at one end, and then Shift click just inside the back part of the fold at the other end.
• Lower the opacity of this layer until you see only a faint suggestion of a shadow.
