Placing a paper clip on your LO using PSE 5.0

1. First take a look at the real thing. Paper clip several layers of paper and a photo. Take note of where you place the paper clip and what you can see and can’t. At this stage also take note of the shadows you can see.

2. Now place your paper clip on your LO adjusting size and position to suit. Now save your LO. This way you can practice without loosing everything.

3. In the layers pallet highlight the paper clip then right click while holding down the ctrl key, shortcut shift +ctrl + D Now you have marching ants around your paper clip.

4. Select your eraser, shortcut E key. I use the brush and adjust the size to small eg 4-9. Erase the portion of the paper clip you don’t want to see. Everything inside the marching ants will be deleted if you erase it. Just delete up to the paper edge where the clip slides under. A good idea at this stage would be to zoom in on your paper clip so you can more accurately work with the eraser.

5. Deselect the marching ants by choosing Select – Deselect or shortcut ctrl + D.

6. There you are. All you need to do now is add your shadows.
